• Mega Projects in Japan

    What will students gain from this program?

    The students will gain first-hand experience with Japanese culture and be exposed to project management related business activities in Japan. Participants will witness how a variety of companies organize their innovative activities and tie their projects to corporate strategy, in order to generate competitive advantages. Such insights will be developed through meetings with entrepreneurs, established businesses, government representatives, and professional organizations across Japan.

    Students will especially focus on the unique features of planning and executing projects in Japan, with careful consideration of the country’s culture and characteristics. In addition, participants will enjoy the people, the sights, the food, the culture and history of modern and traditional Japan.

    Academic Program Overview

    Prior to trip

    • Introductory meeting of students and discussion of expectations and objectives
    • Students participate and complete online Coursera MOOC on Project Planning and Management
    • Discussion of key project planning and management tools and anticipation of company visits.

    Possible Trip Events

    Business meetings: Tokyo 2020 organizing committee technology companies, startups and entrepreneurs, Japanese manufacturers, contractors and real estate developers, government.

    Networking: Alumni reception

    Cultural Experiences: Edo Tokyo Museum, Tokyo Sky Tree, Japanese Drum Lesson and Performance, Kimono Wearing demonstration

    Exploratory Activities: Sake Brewery Visit, Cruise on Aqua Liner
